KUWAIT (KUNA): Minister of Planning Masouma Al-Mubarak said Tuesday the initial results of a state-conducted census show that Kuwait's population reached 2,213,403 in 2005. In a press conference to announce the initial results of the census, Al-Mubarak, also Minister of State for Administrative Development Affairs, said among the population that were included in the statistics, conducted April 20-21, 2005, there were 1,310,067 males and 903,336 females. The Kuwaiti nationals, she added, reached 880,774 of which 433,977 were males and 446,797 females. On the other hand, non-Kuwaiti residents reached 1,332,629, she said, adding that 876,090 of them were males and 456,539 females. The population of the Capital Governorate reached 261,013, she said, with that 137,508 Kuwaitis.
The second most populated governorate, Hawalli, had a population of 487,514, she said, adding that 157,069 of them were Kuwaitis. In Al-Ahmadi governorate the population reached 393,861 of which 183,831 were Kuwaitis, Al-Mubarak said. Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti population in Al-Jahra Governorate reached 97,669 out of its 272,373 overall population. The most populated governorate, Al-Farwaniya, had 622,123 residents of which 166,730 were Kuwaitis. The Governorate of Mubarak Al-Kabir had a population of 176,519, she said, demonstrating that 137,967 were Kuwaitis. The planning minister noted that 1,116,462 of the overall population were employed, comprising 833,560 males and 282,902 females. The employed Kuwaiti population reached 212,570 including 139,251 males and 73,319 females. The unemployed persons in Kuwait, on the other hand, were 903,892 with of 694,309 males and 209,583 females, she said. In term of households, there were 326,231 of them in Kuwait, including 125,192 Kuwaiti households.
